On one section of the grounds at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Northeast Portland, children use ropes and harnesses to climb an artificial rock wall.
Kitty corner from the rock wall is an inflated bounce house. Inside, children jump up and down, giggling and screaming.
Still more children nearby on a lawn play kickball or use a parachute to toss a ball in the air.
Meanwhile, inside the church, some children practice upbeat music or work on crafts with a religious theme, including banners that say “I was made to do good things.”
“I’ve been doing crafts,” notes Noella McQueen, 7. “We made a rock necklace.”
Noella adds she’s learned “Jesus is God’s son,” and that “we are forgiven this week.”
Fun and faith are the themes at SonRock Kids Camp, which has been running from 9 a.m. to noon everyday over the past week at Resurrection.
