SALEM — The Northwest Stars came into the AAA legion regional tournament hoping their luck had changed after a less-than-stellar showing at their tournament in Sandy, but it only got worse for them on Friday as they were 10-runned 12-2 by the Klamath Falls Falcons in their opening game.
Through four innings, the Stars committed six errors, walked three, hit a pair of batters and were called for a balk to fall behind 7-0.
Andrew Hillis hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to drive in Taylor Dunn and make the score 7-1, but the deficit never diminished after that.
An RBI-triple in the seventh inning scored the Falcons’ ninth run of the game, but the first that was driven in off a base hit. The previous eight all came off of errors and walks.
Tom D’Aboy showed his leadership with the score 12-1 in the bottom of the eighth, as he refused to give up and hit the contest’s only home run – a shot to left field. Hillis followed with a double of his own, but it wasn’t enough as the game ended early.
